Job Description

Merck seeks a Senior Specialist in Modeling & Informatics to develop and apply AI/ML and cheminformatics methods for early-stage drug discovery. The role involves computational method innovation, data analysis, and cross-functional collaboration within the Research & Development Division's 50-person computational chemistry team.

Responsibilities

• Implement and apply AI/ML and cheminformatics workflows to analyze early target discovery data
• Develop optimized informatics algorithms and workflows for small molecules, peptides, and protein degraders
• Analyze complex chemical biology data and create visualizations to communicate findings to stakeholders
• Collaborate with cross-functional experimental and computational teams to advance pipeline goals
• Evaluate and integrate new AI/ML technologies, tools, and external collaborations; share knowledge with team members

Requirements

• Ph.D. in cheminformatics, bioinformatics, computational biology, chemistry, computer science, statistics, or related field
• Experience applying cheminformatics or AI/ML approaches to drug discovery problems
• Proficiency in Python and/or R scripting, SQL, and cheminformatics toolkits such as OEChem or RDKit
• Strong understanding of modern machine learning methods including predictive modeling and active learning
• Track record of peer-reviewed scientific publications
• Excellent oral and written communication and problem-solving skills
